The Goonies film review

The Goonies Review

My all-time favorite film has to be ‘The Goonies’ it is everything I love in one amazing film. No matter how many times I watch this film I will never be bored of it, it can cheer me up when I am feeling down with its comedic side and it can bring me close to my loved ones with its family aimed genre. This lovable 80’s film will never be forgotten in my family, in fact I can still remember the first time I watched it when I was younger, that is just how good it is it sticks in your head.

The film starts off introducing the characters which include four best friends named Mikey, Chunk, Data and Mouth  who live in the Goondocks which is how they came across naming themselves ‘The Goonies’. Everyone in the Goondocks has to move away and start their life again in different towns separating ‘The Goonies’ from each other, but before their last summer is over they decide they want to go on one last adventure together and so that is where we hear the tale of one eyed Willy and his lost treasure. Mikey’s dad works in a museum and so happens to be in possession of  a map to one eyed Willies treasure so the boys set off to find the treasure. On their adventure they pick up a few more characters which include Mikey’s brother, Brand and two girls named Andy and Stef. Now as we find about the first lot of characters we also find out about three others named the Fratelli’s who have broken out of jail, as you have probably guessed these people are not nice and of course they find out about the treasure too and so the race begins. Who will get to the treasure first? Well you will have to find out by watching it.

The film includes many famous 80’s stars such as Corey Feldman (The lost boys) Sean Astin (Lord of the rings) Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope) and many more, this action packed film was directed by Richard Donner who directed the famous superman films. I would say the film is more known for the writer of the film who is the one and only Steven Spielberg who is famous for many films including E.T, transformers, Jurassic park and many other spectacular films.

The film is a fusion of genres meaning it has more than one genre, I say this as I cannot simply pin point this film down to one genre. This film is a mixture of Comedy, Adventure and family. The comedy is very well known because of the famous lines within the film such as “Hey you guys” made famous by the character Sloth. The adventure genre comes in because obviously the boys are on an adventure and because of the action within the film especially when the booby traps are introduced to the characters. Finally the family genre is because you can watch this film with anyone, it is suitable for everyone and I think this is why I love this film, the characters with in the film represent a family who don’t want to be torn apart and it makes you want to be as close to your friends and family just like the people shown in the Goonies.
